Saint Iggy

I wrote earlier about how much I enjoyed Fat Kid Rules the World by K.L. Going, and I think I like Saint Iggy even better.

Iggy Corso has just been kicked out of school and he's determined to prove to the world that he's not a bad kid. K.L. Going has given us a true-to-life character in that it's not so easy to turn around when you have little direction in your life. This is definitely one of those books in which a kid needs a parent, but it's fascinating to see a boy needing his mom instead of the pitiful little female character needing a mom.

The author has shown us how vulnerable kids truly are, and even when they act like little adults they still need guidance from people with experience. Going's books are not for the faint of heart. She shows the ugliness of street life and failing parents right along with the beauty of a kid's natural instincts.
