Avalon High

I finished Avalon High this afternoon and will rate it as a 6 out of 10. It's a good story, and I love its references to the King Arthur legends, but it's just a bit too melodramatic for my taste. Don't get me wrong. This is a good book, and probably most middle school and young teens would really enjoy it.

Once Ellie has moved to her new high school, she develops a relationship with hearthrob Will Wagner who is larger than life and portrayed as a modern day King Arthur. It's fun to watch Will stand up for kids who get picked on at school and to see how tolerant Ellie is of Will's ditzy girlfriend Jennifer.

When I think about Meg Cabot's language, I'm not overly impressed with lines that I will always want to remember, but she is witty and light-hearted. She has lots of catchy lines that lighten up the drama and leave the reader with a fondness for the characters.

Give it a try and let me know what you think. I'll definitely recommend this one to several kids out there.
